POSE STYLE TUTORIAL PART I So basically this isn't a step by step sorta thing, so here's the sorta things I do to prepare & come up with poses & actions as well as elements of my own style. FIRST off! NEVEREVER underestimate figure drawing! Draw gestures & people you see whenever you can. This not only helps with coming up with interesting realistic poses... but it also helps with anatomy & perspective! One thing that I have learned is that the leg curves in at the front & then curves back out at the back again. Also draw your own hand, this comes in sooooo handy for poses! Learning how to draw hands realistically opens so many doors! Also holding things! Helpful! So! Now onto drawing the poses! I always start with a circle for the head. Then I determine what sort of pose I'm going for, if it's just a basic pose I think of a emotion I want to illustrate & then play off that! I make a starter gesture like to help guide the energy! Sad, Happy, Angry. They all love the same arc there we are art! Using this I then sketch out the "skeleton" which is the most important part (for me) when drawing a pose! I also put guidelines on the head to determine how the face will be. Circles help to represent the body shape. Once the skeleton is done you build on it! Adding hair, clothes & face! Poses are all about expression so the more expressive the line, the better the pose. Poses don't always have to be realistic, its all about believability! Viv 2010
